I don't know if you are aware that Microsoft released the Word 1.1 source code for educational purposes:

The C slips away from me, but you could still keep an eye on it to see if it can be compiled. What do you think?

I think there is no point in compiling it.

Instead it is a very valuable resource to review its source code and learn from it
