Backup - switchable hub

Post by Otto »

Hello,

I put my switchable USB HUB into operation today.
You can simply switch the ports on and off with the included software.
This has the same effect as physically connecting / disconnecting a device to a port on a typical USB hub.

I think that this is additional security. Now I have to write some software.
switch on - start backup - switch off

Sincerely
Otto

Hello,
I would like to use the USB HUB for a security solution. Therefore I asked the producer if there is a USB HUB where you need a password to unlock the port.
ykushcmd.exe -d 3 PW xxxtest
Without knowing the PW or the serial number, unlocking should not be possible. To copy ykushcmd.exe and start on the PC should not be enough.

From Yepkit Technical Support:

That can be implemented by altering the firmware. There are two scenarios.
1. If using YKUSH boards the password would be static and programmed at factory. This password cannot be changed bu the user and is unique for that board.
2. If using YKUSH3 boards, the boards would be shipped with a standard password and the client upon receiving can change the password. Also the user with the password can change the password to a new one whenever it wishes. The changing of the password is done through a new command on ykushcmd which will require the current password and then will ask for the new one to be entered.
This will require the development of the altered firmware but will not have additional cost. Nonetheless it may require a couple of weeks to get done as engineering team effort has to be allocated for an available slot on their schedule.

Best regards
Otto
